i finally received my crowdfunded copy of Earthborne Rangers, which due to its environmentally friendly goal, made all their cards without the plastic core cards usually have in order to spare the environment. they’re all floppy and fragile, so they definitely need sleeves. only… there’s around 1300 cards.

buying cheap card sleeves from china would run me around €16 plus import duty, but all the ones i can find in local stores are like €5 for 100… that’s a lot of money. and i don’t even know where those are produced.

so, any recommendations on where to get sleeves? preferably with some rigidity if that’s a thing that exists? i think the cards are like 88x63mm.

Edit:

Turns out Arcane Tinmen, from Denmark, make some of their sleeves in-house! so Dragonshield sleeves are indeed european, except the really cheap ones.

That’s awesome - wouldn’t have expected that! How many did you end up getting? And how expensive was it?

I got 200 of the AT-11821 “non-glare clear”, with a matte front and a textured back, which are awesome but way too expensive at like €26 for two packets. then i got 600 of the AT-60205 “clear/non-clare common standard”, with a glossy front and a slightly less translucent matte back, which… also cost €26, for six packets. so way better value, but not as nice.

…actually, looking at the packaging side by side, the 60205s are made in china. darn.

That’s a shame but at least it’s a company that’s from Europe, right?

Also didn’t expect you to find those sleeves for that cheap. Are those 60-sleeve packs or 100-packs?

all of them are hundreds. specifically the 11821s were 135SEK (€12.10) each and the 60205s were 59SEK (€5.29) from another store, so i miscounted a bit

A standard pack of Dragonshield sleeves usually runs you around 10€/pack at retail regardless of what kind of sleeves they are. Some colours are more expensive, art sleeves are also more expensive usually. Matte clear sleeves, depending on where you buy them, either go for the 5-6€/pack you paid online or they’re at around 10€/pack at retail or local game stores/trading card shops. So you paid a good price for yours. And considering that you’re buying quality sleeves that are very durable and will likely last you quite a while, that’s a good deal.

Basic boardgame sleeves are usually cheaper but they’re also heaps cheaper in terms of quality, don’t shuffle well, are very flimsy and break easily. If you don’t mind that, you could have also gone for those. Not a huge recommendation on my part and since you’re already decked out too, probably not needed at this point.

Overall, it’s not cheap as an absolute number, but it’s comparatively cheap for what you’re getting and how much you could have been spending for them.

that’s very fair. thanks for soothing my mind a bit on the issue.

…now i just have to get six more packs to cover all the cards. and the box is already starting to bulge a bit.
