Rogers@lemmy.mlto Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Jellyfin for Android TV roadmapEnglish122·2 years agoI bought a android tv device (NVIDIA shield) and just assumed it was open source like android, turns out it’s not and they force ads on the home screen, if you jump though a ton of hoops to roll back some updates, you can turn them off, but it will re-enable them after a while. does not feel like a device I own. Even NVIDIA cannot turn off the google ads on the NVIDIA shield. you can add other launchers but they don’t make it easy and they regularly get removed as the default launcher.
At this point I’m just considering just making a mini PC with linux https://plasma-bigscreen.org/ that will stay connected to my TV. OSMC is another option; however, it does not work well with DRMed content, so I gave up on that as well; even though it’s an awesome project. Some android TV boxes are compatible with Lineage OS so that might be another option.
What are your main dislikes of kde?

Rogers@lemmy.mlto Linux@lemmy.ml•Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?14·2 years agoUsed thinkpads especially the older ones (t480 and older) have a ton of extra parts floating around, and you can get them cheap. I built a t480 with 8th gen i7 from parts for around $170 over a year ago, it has been a great experience. I upgraded the trackpad and keyboard and plan to upgrade the screen, cooling, and battery next.
Maybe he was gaming on Wayland or something
Came here to say the same. Such a great distro, and it’ll be an easy switch from manjaro.
I’ve been running it with btrfs and it has been rock solid stability wise. If you go btrfs I recommend grub btrfs for easy boot time snapshots and btrfs-assistant in the aur if you want a GUI to manage btrfs maintenance.
